Rotary Action Groups

Rotary Action Groups

Rotary Action Groups are independent, Rotary-affiliated groups made up of people from around the world who are experts in a particular field, such as economic development, peace, addiction prevention, the environment, or water. If you are not able to be involved in a specific project maybe you could join a Rotary Action Group (RAG)

Whats Happening in Tonga.
1. Tonga Appeal

RAWCS has set up an appeal fund for donations to support the people of Tonga affected by the volcanic eruption and ensuing tsanami.
District 9685 is liaising with the Consul of Tonga and has approved $10,000 for supply of equipment to be agreed with the Tongan Government. The balance will be placed into the RAWCS Project account
We urge Clubs to also contribute to the RAWCS project. Should any of you wish to make a personal TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation, the following should help.

Tonga Volcano Eruption and Tsunami Disaster - Rotary Australia Relief Fund (RARF)
https://directory.rawcs.com.au/42-2021-22
Summary: To provide funds for humanitarian programs to assist the people in Tonga recover from the volcano and tsunami disaster.
Challenge: The effects of the Volcano and Tsunami on January 15th will be far-reaching, impacting the Tonga Community for months, possibly years to come. Communication remains problematic with international and inter-island call still no possible due to the damage to the undersea cable.
Solution: Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) will be working with Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNZWCS) and Rotary Club of Nuku’alofa (Tonga) in providing aid and assistance to the affected communities’ and restoring their livelihoods. RAWCS has registered a Rotary Australia Relief Fund project to seek financial assistance from Rotary Clubs, the public and private sector. Donations to the RAWCS Relief Fund are tax deductible.
Long term impact: The aim is to get Tonga back to normality as soon as possible so that they can look after their own communities again.

Fighting Malaria in Zambia
One of the most frustrating things about malaria is the preventable suffering it imposes on families. The death of a child or a parent, the loss of work, or economic stability can be devastating.
Eric Liswaniso spent 10 years in public service before joining Malaria Partners Zambia, which is part of Malaria Partners International founded by Rotary members to eliminate malaria. He’s using his passion for Rotary and his experience in socioeconomic development, project management, and community engagement to raise awareness and inspire people to become advocates for a malaria-free Zambia.

International Convention 2022

As Rotary members, we use our connections to create lasting change in our communities and around the world. And although we’ve all faced the challenges of the pandemic for the past year and a half, we’ve continued to take action, solve problems, and make a positive impact. So we are optimistic that we can gather in person to explore new opportunities for friendship and service at the 2022 Rotary International Convention, 4-8 June in Houston, Texas, USA. We invite you to join us!
At the convention, you will:

  • Develop new friendships and strengthen old ones
  • Share your Rotary experiences and learn more ways to get involved
  • Find inspiration in the family of Rotary

Register now to take advantage of our reduced rate, available until 15 December. You’ll be able to cancel for a full refund, minus a $50 per person administration fee, until 30 April.
Don’t miss this chance to strengthen your passion for Rotary.

FOR THE SWEET TOOTHS
1866 James Pascall had worked as an agent for Cadbury's before setting up business with his brother Alfred in a small shop off London's Oxford Street in 1866. Initially they produced sweets such as herbal cough drops, candy and French rock. In 1877, they moved to larger premises in Blackfriars and expanded their range. In 1931 - 32 his descendant, Sydney W. Pascall was President of Rotary International.  Read  "What do you know?"in this issue.

Last month we held the third webinar in our “Engaging Members + Delivering Value” series titled “Expanding Our Reach.” During this webinar we spoke to participants who are sharing Rotary’s values with new audiences and creating different ways to engage people with Rotary. If you couldn’t attend, watch the recording (EN only), share with your club and have a conversation on ways you can expand your reach in your community.

ROTARY VISION: The application of practical action in solving problems, locally and worldwide
" The prevailing Rotary attitude is rendering service is practicality. Its aim in performing a useful action is to be helpful and serviceable, not sentimental...As Practical idealists, we temper the fanciful flights of the dreamer with the limitations of common sense."
