Dementia Awareness and Support

Bobby has been a Rotarian since 2010, starting out at The Rotary Club of The Hills Kellyville, becoming President of the Club in the 2012-13 Rotary year.  On her retirement in 2014, she moved up to the Central Coast, and is a current member of Brisbane Water Rotary Club.

Bobby has held a number of District positions including AG for the Lower Central Coast in 2015-16; Vocational District Chair 2016 – 2019; was on the District Youth Exchange Committee from 2013 to 2017; and was on the Australian Rotary Health Committee since 2016 – 2021. She currently holds the position of District Chair for the Dementia Awareness and Support Committee, under the Community Service banner.

Before retiring in 2014, Bobby was a psychologist, specialising in working with people with an intellectual disability.  Since being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, in 2016, Bobby has set herself the task of improving the lives of people living with dementia and is passionate about her dementia advocacy work.  In 2021 she was honoured by the District with the Rotary Vocational Excellence Award – the Graham Turnidge Shield for her ongoing Dementia Advocacy work and commitment to Rotary.

Bobby will try to give us a better understanding of dementia and will talk to us about why greater awareness around dementia is important, as well as how the community can assist in improving the lives of people living with dementia and their family carers. She will also talk about the Rotary Dementia Cafes, known as DCaf, which are being established around the District.
