You will recall when DG Kalma visited your clubs that she promoted a fundraising event for Saturday 29 February. The fundraising focus was The Purple House – an Indigenous Dialysis Project in Central Australia. The idea was to make a world record attempt for the number of people around Australia (all Rotary Districts) on the number of people simultaneously dancing the Nutbush. It appears Guinness World Record authorities are wanting to charge an arm and a leg so attempting the record is likely to slide through to the keeper……
HOWEVER……..
The focus of the fundraising event has been shifted to the bushfires. Each of us likely has been affected or knows someone who has been touched in some way.
We are fortunate that few people have been victims of the fires in our District at this stage compared with other areas as you will have read in the DG’s newsletter.
On the Central Coast we are planning an event on the same , Saturday 29 February at Mingara Regional Athletics Centre, 12-14 Mingara Drive, Tumbi Umbi.
The aim is to charge a $5.00 entry fee (through www.ticket.com and at the gate) to provide access to a number of food stalls and activities, involvement in the nutbush dance and this can only occur with the support of all 16 Central Coast Rotary Clubs.
We will perform the Nutbush dance for a fun and different way to raise funds. Funds raised will go to the bushfire victims and I understand this will occur in a similar way to the funds raised for the drought relief by providing vouchers for spending in local bushfire effected communities.
I hope you will be enthusiastic to support this event…. In general the plan is as follows:
Central Coast Plan
· To have food stalls (Rotary and others, coffee carts, drinks/ice creams etc, maybe a bouncing castle, the fire engine man (kids display). The Mingara club has some food cart contacts they will share with me should we need them.
· The venue is suitable for a single entry point for participants.
· We have access to the PA system and the Nutbush Dance can be conducted on the internal space inside the athletics track at 11am with some pre-practice.
· Aim is to erect an elevated platform for dance leads.
· Time: Stall access and set-up 8am. Event 10am-2pm. Pack down by 3pm
· Food stalls etc outside the track – no vehicles on the track.
· Mingara will make a minimal charges for use of the venue, PA system etc.
· Rotary stalls covered by Rotary insurance and can setup free of charge. Other stalls (non-Rotary will need their own insurance cover and a fee will be charged to participate (amount yet to be determined).
· Funds collected are to be donated the Rotary Bushfire appeal via RAWCS account.
· I have asked DG Kalma if there is to be a social media campaign and await her response. Should this happen I would hope you will take steps to share the massage with your contacts, schools, other service organisations etc etc.
