Vale Past Rotary International President Clem Renouf. The world owes him so much. Clem Renouf thought of himself as an ordinary bloke who, thanks to a life-long liaison with Rotary, got to do an extraordinary thing.
"Sir Clement William Bailey Renouf, AM is an Australian accountant and former President of Rotary International 1978-79. In this latter role he contributed significantly to the planned eradication of poliomyelitis worldwide. He was born in Ingham, Queensland in 1921."

Sir Clem said one story that hasn’t left him was the time his Rotary International successor was giving a dose to a girl when a boy crippled by polio said “thanks Rotary – that is my sister”.
“I couldn’t help thinking why we couldn’t have started sooner to spare victims like that boy.
“None of this could happen if people did not get together around tables on Tuesday nights at Rotary meetings.”
“I used to say it would be eradicated in the next few years, but it gets harder the closer you get. But I intend to die in a polio-free world.” by Peter Gardiner. Sunshine Coast Daily 21st Feb 2010
Sir Clem died at his home at Arcare, Hope Island, Queensland on 11 June 2020. He celebrated his 99th birthday on April 19 with his family.
He is survived by his wife Firth, son Noel, daughter Judy and their families.
