Greetings to you and your Rotary Club. Operation Cleft Australia is a proud Australian Rotary Club program. For 15 years we have provided together with our Cleft Bangladesh partner more than 15,000 free, life changing surgeries, bringing healing, hope, a smile and a new life to children spread across all regions of Bangladesh.
Without the generous support of Australian Rotary Clubs, the programme would be so much less effective. This last year has been extremely difficult, due to COVID many of our Rotary Clubs have not been able to organise their fund-raising activities or meet their targets. The COVID pandemic has hit Bangladesh and its 165 million residents hard. The Cleft surgical programme was suspended, locked down from March to July. In early August our surgeons determined to restart surgeries in-spite of the obvious risks, reducing the backlog and the dangerous build-up of surgeries needed for our Cleft suffering children.
Since recommencing in early August, 1,030 surgeries have now been successfully completed (to Feb end), we are so pleased to see these numbers returning to more normal expected pre-COVID levels.
We are only able to continue to provide these amazing humanitarian life changing surgeries with your Club’s on-going generous support. The cost to provide one child with free surgery which includes all the pre- and post-surgery support is now just $A350.00.
