As we near the end of the calendar year, you may be wondering how the End Polio Now campaign is going.

The latest report as of 11 December shows a total of 117 cases of the wild polio virus (with 23 in Afghanistan and 94 in Pakistan).  This is more than the same period in 2018, unfortunately.  Nigeria is on track to be declared "polio free" soon, with its last case of the wild virus reported in 2016.

There have been 216 cases of infection due to the immunization process itself so far this year, which is also higher than last year.

There is a great website which provides a weekly update on the Global Polio Eradication Effort.  Please click here to link to their website.
