Congrats to Dave and Penny for the great work they are doing, even in such difficult times. Here is a brief report from Sewaid.
This month we assisted Libby Bleakley of Blackheath Rotary to upgrade her sewing room in East Timor. When we were there last year and gave her some new household machines, we noted the need for some much faster machinery. So we organised a new Singer industrial sewing machine and a Singer Industrial overlocker along with over 1,000m of fabric , elastic ,thread and other sewing items. These industrial machines sew at over 4 times the speed of household machines so it should result in a substantial increase in production times. Much of the cost of this new equipment came from a donation of $5,000 from the Rotary E-club of Brindabella ( Canberra ).
Just prior to the COVID lockdown we were all packed up for a project in Kiribati, in fact we still have two pallets wrapped up ready to send. We have been waiting for DIK Melbourne to re-commence as they handle the freight to Kiribati for us.
So hopefully we can get this project up and going again shortly.
