Updates from Uganda School for Life

UPDATES FROM UGANDA

As our students return to classrooms in a staggered approach to ensure the health and safety of our entire school community, we are expecting approximately 1,445 students to report in, of which a third will be new students starting with us.

Over the coming weeks our team will focus on settling all our children back into the classroom routine, providing the necessary psycho-social support during this transition back to school and following up our students to ensure everyone is back with us.

Key highlights from the month include:

  • The boys' boarding facility has opened! With construction wrapping up at the end of December, the Senior boys' boarding facility opened just in time to welcome our boy boarders last week. We will be sharing some special stories and footage of the momentous day with you shortly.
  • We have hired 12 new teachers to bolster our growing student numbers. It's been a tough, pandemic riddled couple of years, but our team in Uganda has emerged stronger and more resilient after tackling the challenges of the last two years. With some new faces joining us, we can't wait to see what our team will achieve this year.
  • Did you see us on BBC World News? Last week our Director of Community & Welfare, Janepher, and our student Aisha, were interviewed live from our schools as Uganda's school shutdown came to an end.

And although we’ve all faced the challenges of the pandemic for the past year and a half, we’ve continued to take action, solve problems, and make a positive impact. So we are optimistic that we can gather in person to explore new opportunities for friendship and service at the 2022 Rotary International Convention, 4-8 June in Houston, Texas, USA. We invite you to join us!
At the convention, you will:

  • Share your Rotary experiences and learn more ways to get involved
  • Find inspiration in the family of Rotary

Last month we held the third webinar in our “Engaging Members + Delivering Value” series titled “Expanding Our Reach.” During this webinar we spoke to participants who are sharing Rotary’s values with new audiences and creating different ways to engage people with Rotary. If you couldn’t attend, watch the recording (EN only), share with your club and have a conversation on ways you can expand your reach in your community.

ROTARY VISION: The application of practical action in solving problems, locally and worldwide
" The prevailing Rotary attitude is rendering service is practicality. Its aim in performing a useful action is to be helpful and serviceable, not sentimental...As Practical idealists, we temper the fanciful flights of the dreamer with the limitations of common sense."
