Dear Friends of Sewaid,

I thought you would be interested in what some of our Sewaid workshops are doing to assist with the pandemic. Plus an update on other projects

SEWAID PHILIPPINES

Our Sewaid workshop in the Philippines  is meeting the needs of the time, by making masks and other protective gear.

Our amazing Maggie and her team have already produced over 10,000 masks for the Army and other services , and are now also making full protective suits.  Maggie, is simply amazing and she has always responded to the needs in her community.

SEWAID FIJI

Peter Drysdale from our Sewaid workshop at Koriopeta Model Homes, has advised that they are also flat out making masks.

Also our shipment of new equipment that we sent them last month,is due to arrive about this time.  We have donated to them a new Singer Industrial machine, a heavy duty Singer portable, new Triumph over- locker plus new cutting mats, rotary cutters etc.  This is to upgrade their equipment as they move into  their new workshop in their new enterprise building.

OTHER

Kiribati :Regretfully we have had to postpone our trip to Kiribati, but when we finally get past this pandemic, we will fire up this project again. It is good to see that to date they do not have the virus.

Cambodia: Also our shipment of materials to Sustainable Cambodia is still held up here in Sydney awaiting the Cambodian Government to reduce the US$8,000 quoted duty. It is a shame that this Government cannot respond to the needs of their people.

Solomon Islands:Our shipment of machines to Noro Solomon Islands is ready to send , but we are waiting to hear if the shipping is still happening. I believe The Solomons are still virus free !

East Timor: We had agreed to take part in the Rotary project exhibition planned for August, and while I haven't heard, but  I suspect this will be also cancelled. East Timor has had one case of COVID-19 and the place is in complete lockdown.

Regards

Tony
